Information for precare & aftercare

Appointment Preparation

Following these instructions prior to your procedure will help ensure a more relaxed, comfortable, and enjoyable experience.

  • Do not consume alcohol, caffeine, and/or nicotine for at least 24 hours before your procedure. Consumption of these items can cause excessive bleeding and interrupt your skin’s healing process. These items are stimulants and will heighten your sensitivity during the procedure. Doing so may result in rescheduling and forfeiture of your appointment.
  • Exfoliate with a facial scrub/wash & moisturize your skin for 1 week prior to your appointment to prep your skin for the procedure.
    • Lips:
      • If you have a history of cold sores, it’s advised to get an anti-viral from a physician. You can also take over-the-counter lysine to help prevent an outbreak. It is not uncommon to have a cold sore outbreak even if you’ve never had one.
      • Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub 4 days and 2 days prior to the appointment. Sleep with a lip mask for at least 1 week prior.
      • You should not receive any type of botox or filler treatments for 3 weeks prior to your procedure and for 4 weeks after. If you are considering lip fillers,  we recommend getting lip fillers BEFORE receiving lip blush.

  • Please eat something 20 - 30 minutes prior to your appointment. Do not plan anything too closely after your appointment so that we are not rushed.
  • If you bruise easily, we recommend taking Arnica before and after your procedure. Arnica is available at most health food stores.
  • If you are on blood thinners, check with your doctor to make sure you can go 24 hours without them. It is not advised to be on blood thinners for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. You may take them right after the procedure is finished.
  • Avoid tanning and tanning beds 2 weeks before/after the procedure.
  • Please avoid any products containing Retin-A, AHA/BHA, acid for 2 weeks before/after the procedure around the procedure area. These products can cause excessive bleeding and interrupt your skin’s healing process.
  • You may request a patch test 2 weeks before the procedure. We are required by the color manufacturer to offer that to you, but it is not needed. A patch test does not ensure that you will not develop a reaction later on.

LIPS

DAY OF PROCEDURE:

  • Gently blot the area firmly with a damp cotton pad & bottled/distilled water 1x an hour for 4 hours after the appointment. DO NOT WIPE.
  • Keep lips moisturized at all time.
  • Blot periodically if needed before bed. Reapply ointment.
  • Blot before bed and apply ointment or lip mask before bed.

FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK POST-PROCEDURE OR UNTIL HEALING IS COMPLETE:

  • Avoid colored, spicy, and salty foods during the healing process.
  • Try to eat with a knife/fork and drink only clear liquids through a straw until healed.
  • Do NOT smoke/vape until the lips are healed.
  • Keep the area clean by blotting with a damp cotton pad and water after eating.
  • Keep the area moisturized at all times using the aftercare ointment, aquaphor, a&d, or a colorless lip mask. DO NOT USE VASELINE OR PETROLEUM JELLY.
  • Keep your hands clean and avoid touching the treated areas. When the area starts to flake, leave it. DO NOT PICK, PEEL, OR PULL ON THE SKIN OR TREATED AREA.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds.
  • Avoid exposing the area to excessive moisture or humidity, such as: facials, swimming in chlorine pools or recreational bodies of water, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and steamy showers.
  • No makeup on the treated area until completely healed.

LONG TERM CARE

  • Use chapstick with SPF to protect your lips and to prevent premature fading.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS: For most, lips will heal within 3 - 7 days. Estimated timeline below:

  • Day 1: Lip color is vibrant and intense. Lips may be slightly swollen.
  • Day 2 - 4: Lips feel tight & dry.
  • Day 4 - 7: Lips are completely peeled & the color seems very faint/light.
  • Day 7 - 48: Color will start to resurface, darken, & stabilize as your skin regenerates & pushes the pigment to the upper layers of the skin.  Lips can take up to 2 months to show its true color.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • At some point, your lips may have a lip liner look, but it will take at least 4 - 6 weeks for the color to fully develop.
  • For those with darker pigmentation, it can take up to 8 - 12 weeks to fully develop and can go through a lot of changes before the color fully blossoms.

BROW AFTERCARE

  • Begin 1st cleanse that evening (or as instructed).
  • Wash brows with mild cleanser twice a day (AM & PM). Rinse with cool water and gently pat dry with a clean paper towel.
  • Apply a small amount of Aquaphor 2 x's a day with a q-tip or clean finger tip (AM & PM) for 1 week only.
  • After 7 days, you no longer need to apply Aquaphor and you can cleanse your face as normal (avoid using skincare with harsh ingredients for 2 weeks). Do not pick at scabs.

FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK POST-PROCEDURE OR UNTIL HEALING IS COMPLETE (WHICHEVER IS LONGER):

  • Avoid vigorous exercise or excessive sweating until your brows are healed.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds.
  • Avoid exposing the area to excessive moisture or humidity, such as: facials, swimming in chlorine pools or recreational bodies of water, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and steamy showers.
  • No lotions, ointments, or makeup on the treated area until completely healed.
  • Avoid direct contact with animals to the treated area.
  • Do not resume any method of eyebrow hair removal or eyebrow tinting for at least 2 weeks.
  • Avoid Retin-A, AHA, glycolic acids, exfoliants, and anti-aging products at all times (not just during healing) on all micropigmented areas. These can cause pigments to fade and lighten prematurely.

LONG TERM CARE:

  • Grooming may still be required to keep the shape clean from outside hairs and new hair growth.
  • Use SPF on the brows to protect them from the sun and premature fading.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS: For most, brows will heal within 7-14 days. Estimated timeline below.

  • Day 1 - 3: Brows will look darker and thicker. Do not panic. It is still fresh and the fading process has not started.
  • Day 4 - 7: Brows may begin to scab/flake & may appear patchy.
  • Day 7 - 10: Brows are completely peeled & the color seem very faint/light/patchy.
  • Day 11 - 35: Color will start to resurface, darken, & stabilize as your skin regenerates & pushes the pigment to the upper layers of the skin. Brows can take 6 - 8 weeks to show its true color.
